• Identify and apply the concepts and principles that are applicable to, and support, standards.
• Understand the function of writing a national standard.
• Determine the type of standard or other deliverable needed.
• Draft an appropriate scope and title for a standard.
• Select suitable keywords and draft an abstract.
• Organize information effectively within a standard and arrange the typical components of a standard
into a typical and coherent structure.
• Explain and apply the rules and conventions applicable to the drafting of a national standard.
• Ensure that language and style within a standard are appropriate and that standard wording is used
wherever possible.
• Draft Test Methods appropriately.
• Understand the legal issues involved in the writing of standards.
• Explain and apply the drafting rules, conventions and considerations particular to the maintenance of
existing standards
