LEARNING OUTCOMES
• Describe in detail the stages and process of development of a national standard.
• Discuss the purpose of each stage of standards development, as well as the responsibilities,
activities and role-players relevant to each stage of standards development.
• Explain the role that a technical committee plays in the development of a national standard.
• Anticipate possible problems within the standards development process and propose ways to avoid
and/or solve such problems.
• Describe the function, procedures and administrative requirements of the Standards Approval
Committee (SAC).
• Identify and use appropriately the forms associated with each stage of standards development.
• Explain and apply the rules and conventions applicable to the development of a national standard.
• Explain the procedures and functions involved in the maintenance of standards.
• Compare and participate in the development of local/home-grown standards and the adoption of
regional/ international/foreign national standards.
• Participate in and implement the complete standards development process.
• Describe the procedure for the development of normative documents other than national standards.
MINIMUM PASS MARK: 80%
