LEARNING OUTCOMES
• Identify the purpose, responsibilities and key qualities of a committee chairperson.
• Prepare adequately and effectively for the role of committee chairperson.
• List and apply general guidelines for chairing committee meetings effectively.
• Debate and internalize the concept of consensus (in the context of technical committees).
• Understand and apply rules pertaining to voting.
• Recognize amongst group members, as well as select for use, appropriate meeting behavior patterns.
• Identify and apply techniques and skills for guiding group discussion.
• Demonstrate an understanding of basic theory relating to the following:
• Behavioral styles (aggression, assertion and non-assertion);
• Group development and dynamics;
• Group decision making;
• Personality types;
• Managing exhibited behavior within a group context; and
• Non-verbal communication (body language).
• Coordinate activities and actions of a committee on an ongoing basis.
• Effectively lead and manage committee interaction and discussion in order to facilitate the committee
to reach consensus.
• Identify personal development needs for increasing competence in chairing committee meetings.
MINIMUM PASS MARK: 80%
